WAVEx Research Webinar

July 9, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

WAVE-Washington Advancements in Viticulture & Enology Logo

The webinar will feature results of two recent research projects:
Improvements in Phenolic Analysis – Dr. James Harbertson, WSU research enologist, and his research team have created a new tool for winemakers to measure wine components. The new model allows winemakers to conduct relatively simple tests, run the results through the new WSU-created algorithm and get accurate predictions on wine phenolics.
Tanks vs. Barrels? Stainless steel or oak for fermentation and aging red wines – Dr. Tom Collins, WSU wine chemist, will share outcomes of a trial that studied the impact of fermentation vessel on the flavor profile of red wines. With the recent interest in barrel or puncheon fermentation of red wines, this project was initiated to evaluate the sensory perception and chemical composition from fermentation of red musts in barrels or stainless steel tanks and provides useful insight into the effects of fermentation and aging.

The purpose of WAVEx is to raise awareness about the value of research supported by the wine industry through grape and wine assessments paid to the Washington State Wine Commission. According to feedback from those who attended previous WAVE and WAVEx events, the seminars help growers and winemakers access and apply research outcomes in their operations.

Registration is required to receive the webinar link. Questions can be submitted prior, or asked at the end of each presentation. Register for the WAVEx webinar here.
