Tsillan Cellars (www.tsillancellars.com) is offering an internship for the 2020 crush season. Having recently been awarded WA State 2020 Winery of the Year, we seek an individual who can appreciate the style of learning that comes from being very hands-on in all facets of harvesting our roughly 45 acres of 16 different wine grape varietals.
Our intern will be part of a team, led by legendary Winemaker Ray Sandidge and coached by our talented Assistant Winemaker, Maria Starceski. The position spans from late August through late November 2020. It’s not easy work, and the production team works Monday- Saturday (most Sundays off). The harvest experience serves up invaluable lessons and gives credibility for any person wanting to make winemaking their profession.
On the job education provided in the following areas:
- Sanitation for industry standards
- monitoring fermentations
- lab analysis of wine
- fruit sampling
- operation of harvest equipment (press, de-stemmer/ crusher)
Additional job duties of the person in this role include but are not limited to:
- Daily punch downs
- Additions to fruit/ juice/ or wine
- Fruit/ juice/ wine transfers
- Barrel preparation, filling, and emptying
- Sanitation, sanitation, and more sanitation
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds is a must. Availability to work long hours and weekends when necessary. In addition, we value punctuality, willingness to work hard, being a team player, and a passion for winemaking. Previous winery experience is a plus, but not required! Forklift experience is also a plus.
Pay is $13.50 – $15.00 based on experience. Over time is valued at time and a half. One shift meal per day from Sorrento’s Restaurant is included. Housing is not provided though we would help finalist find housing in/around the Chelan, WA area.
