Trial Showcase 2019 – An all-day event held on Thursday, March 7th at the Walter Clore Center in Prosser, featuring speakers, trial presentations and their associated trial tastings; with pertinence to Washington State and the 2018 Vintage.

9:00-9:30 AM 2018 Vintage Review from the Vineyard Perspective – Michelle Moyer, PhD, Assistant Professor/Extension Viticulturist, WSU.
9:30-10:20 AM New Hybrid Cold Resistant Varieties with blind tasting – Michelle Moyer, PhD, Assistant Professor/Extension Viticulturist, WSU.
10:30-11:00 AM –Ferm Control created by Christian Hansen. Presented by Megan Bell from Bayard Fox.
11:00 AM- 1200 PM L’Ecole Killer Cab Tasting! Four Cabernet Sauvignon’s from four AVAs, explore the difference with the winemaker. Laboratory analysis provided by ETS.
12:00 -1:00 PM Lunch catered by Fat Olives. We will have sandwiches with both a gluten-free and vegetarian option, crudité plater, salad and assorted sweets, water and sodas. Be sure to indicate preference on your enrollment.
Afternoon Trial Presentations and Tastings
1:00-1:20 PM Oak Tannin Selection & Barrel Toasting Impact on Volatiles in 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon. Presented by Hillary Sjolund, Technical Consultant, Vicard Generation 7
1:20-1:50 PM Non-Saccharomyces fermentations – an industry update. Presented by Darren Michaels, Technical Winemaker, Laffort USA Pacific Northwest, owner/winemaker Tetrahedron Wines and Big River Laboratories
2:00-3:45 PM Native or Non-Saccharomyces fermentations with the winemakers. Explore the pitfall and successes and taste through Washington and Oregon low-input wines. Brad Binko of Eternal Wines, Sorin Dumitru of Bontzu will be joining the panel.
4:00-4:30 PM Did the wines make the ‘cut?’ Brian Mackey of Chateau Ste. Michelle to elaborate on his 2016 mechanization trial.
