WAVEx: Evaluating your 2020 wines for smoke impact
December 10, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Join us for this free webinar sponsored by Washington Wine and Washington State University. It is open exclusively to winemakers and wine grape growers in Washington and cross border AVAs. It features an educational evaluation and tasting of some examples of 2020 wines to help Washington winemakers and growers better understand smoke impact, as well as preliminary results from various smoke trials conducted by WSU. The webinar will be led by the WSU team of Drs. Tom Collins, Jim Harbertson, and Thomas Henick-Kling.
AGENDA
- Comparison of air quality sensor data across vineyards with the same wine composition
- Educational tasting of aroma and flavor profiles in smoke-impacted wines
- Preliminary data on barrier spray trials in vineyards & fermentation with ash and oak additions
- Outlook for mitigation of smoke-influenced wines
To facilitate the webinar’s educational tasting component, example wines will be shipped to locations throughout Washington (Woodinville, Lake Chelan, Prosser, Walla Walla, and the Columbia Gorge) for pickup by registered webinar attendees.
Registration is required by November 30. Information on sample pickup will be shared as part of the registration confirmation.
The webinar will also be recorded for later viewing.
