Agenda (For Both Days)

9:00 am          Check In

9:15 am          Presentation: “Grapevine leafroll disease management: obstacles and opportunities.”

Grapevine leafroll disease is one of the most devastating viral diseases of grapevine worldwide. Management involves an integrated approach that includes the selection of clean planting material, vector detection and management, and removal of diseased vines to reduce viral inoculum. This talk will focus on the process of integrating these tools into a successful disease management program to reduce economic and environmental impacts of leafroll disease. It will also cover grape mealybug biology and management, leafroll disease transmission biology, ecology, and decision support tools, and management including clean plants, vine mapping, and approaches for roguing.

Presenter: Dr. Monica Cooper, University of California Cooperative Extension, Napa County Viticulture Advisor. Presenter profile: https://cenapa.ucanr.edu/about/contact/?facultyid=4979

10:15 am        Presentation: “Grapevine leafroll in Washington State.”

This presentation will cover general features of leafroll disease in WA vineyards. Topics include leafroll viruses and their prevalence, disease symptoms in red- and white-fruited cultivars, challenges in vineyard scouting and symptom-based diagnosis of leafroll disease, sampling for virus testing, the importance of diagnostics in disease management, vector(s) and spatial and temporal spread of leafroll in vineyards.

Presenter: Dr. Naidu Rayapati, Washington State University, Grape Virologist. Presenter profile: https://plantpath.wsu.edu/people-directory/profile/?nid=naidu
