August 19, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

See Research in Action!

Drone demo on Aug. 19

Washington’s wine grape growers and wineries are invited to see their research dollars at work during a demonstration of a drone release of beneficial predators for grape mealybug and spider mites.

The demo will be held:

  • Friday, August 19
  • 9:00-10:00am
  • Kiona Vineyards, Benton City. Meet at the Kiona Winery Tasting Room Parking Lot, 44612 N Sunset Rd, Benton City, WA 99320. It’s a short walk to the research trial location.

The demo is part of a research project funded through the Washington State Wine Commission’s Research Grant program. The grant brings together Dr. David James, WSU entomologist, and UAV-IQ Precision Agriculture, a private company specializing aerial release of beneficials. The project, underway this summer, studies the effectiveness and economics of using drones as a labor-saving way to release beneficials and evaluates the effectiveness of using a lure or attractant to keep beneficials in the vineyard to do their work.Contact Washington State Wine Commission Research Program Director Melissa Hansen with any questions.
