Job Title: 2024 Viticulture Intern
North Slope Management is a vineyard management company on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. Currently, our company is responsible for managing 6 different vineyard properties (300 acres), including the historic Seven Hills Vineyard. We are looking for someone motivated, hardworking, and reliable to fill the position of 2024 Viticulture Intern starting during the month of March. This position is an integral part of our team that will have important duties through the 2024 growing season, while providing the individual a unique opportunity to learn and develop important skills in viticulture and vineyard management.
Duties – include, but not limited to:
- Assist scouting for phenological mile markers on all 6 vineyard properties
- Assist scouting for pest and disease
- Assisting with the planting and replanting of vines
- Weeding and maintaining bio areas
- Mealy bug trapping
- Aiding in vertebrate pest control
- Keeping track of irrigation records
- Aiding in all stages of vine care, such as pruning, shoot thinning, and crop thinning.
- Assisting in crop estimates
- Operating a forklift for harvest fruit
- Collecting harvest maturity samples for winery clients and tracking brix levels when needed
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Ability to work outside in challenging conditions
- Ability to operate ATVs and forklift in a safe manner
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong desire to learn and stay curious
Location: Milton-Freewater, Oregon (15-minute drive from Walla Walla, Washington)
Reports to: General Manager, Sadie Drury, and Viticulturist, Monique Ortiz.
Terms: $17.50/hour pay, flexible hours during the school year, and up to 40 hours during summer and harvest.
