Job Description
Develop high-quality Extension educational information and presentations in support of county, regional and statewide programs on horticultural sciences and viticulture. Establish, conduct, and publish relevant applied research in the field of viticulture and vineyard management. Publish scholarly works documenting outcomes and findings of applied research. Acquire funding to support activities through fee-based programming, contracts, grants, and gifts. Develop educational materials (i.e., publications, applied journal articles, extension fact sheets, curriculum/handbooks, websites, newsletters/blogs, interactive tools, etc.). Support development and reporting to unit and agency strategic plan of helping all Texans better their lives by focusing on critical issues, including developing best management practices for managing vineyards in the Texas High Plains region. Deliver input to industry and Extension committees and teams to assist in developing relevant educational programs for targeted audiences as per grower needs. Participate in graduate education within the department. Collaborate with horticulture researchers across the state to share information and best practices. Support county-based extension personnel by providing science-based information to address stakeholder needs. Participate in national/regional professional organizations by attending annual meetings and presenting research findings.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
PhD in Horticulture or related science.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
PhD in Viticulture and Enology
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
3 years of related experience in viticulture and commercial vineyard management.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
5 years of related experience in viticulture and commercial vineyard management.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Publication of academic research on horticultural sciences and/or viticulture in scholarly publications.
