DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce the 2024 Washington State University / Washington State Grape Society Viticulture Field Day. \nEvent Details\nWhen: Wednesday\, August 7\, 2024 \nTime: 8:45 AM to 11:45 AM \nWhere: Figgins Winery\, 3917 Mill Creek Road\, Walla Walla\, WA.   Please plan to carpool to reduce total traffic to the site. \nCost:  $20\n \nRegistration will be limited to 80 people.\n \nRegistration: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wsu-wsgs-viticulture-field-day-tickets-916754225567\n \nWe have been approved for 1 WSDA pesticide recertification credit.  We are unable to offer ODA recertification credits due to insufficient duration (per ODA requirements) of pest-specific topics. \n  \nEvent Description\nThis outdoor educational event will feature a series of educational rotations\, with 30 minute stops at four themed stations.  On-site check in begins at 8:45 AM  and the event will be done by 11:45 AM. \n\nStation 1 – Rootstocks in Cold Climates. Learn about managing grapevines on rootstocks in cold climates\, with a look at hilling\, graft union management\, and sucker management. Presented by Jason Magnaghi\, Figgins Winery.\nStation 2 – Alternative Weed Management.  This station will provide updates on non-chemical weed management\, including some equipment demonstration. Presented by Rui Liu\, Washington State University.\nStation 3 – Watering Monitoring for Vineyards. Learn about different water and soil moisture sensors\, how to best use them\, and how to interpret the data they product. Presented by Troy Peters\,  Washington State University.\nFull Group Presentation – Phylloxera Identification and Response.  Scout\, dig\, and diagnose with us! Learn about identifying vineyard symptoms of a potential phylloxera infestation\, and how to scout to confirm the presence (or not!) of this insect.  We will also discuss best-management practices for limiting phylloxera spread both during the growing season\, and during harvest.  Presented Gwen Hoheisel and Michelle Moyer\, Washington State University.\n\nPost-Event Activities\nEnjoy the Walla Walla area!
