WAVEx Webinar – Heat Mitigation Insights for Washington Vineyards

May 20 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Dr. Markus Keller, Viticulture Professor at Washington State University, will share results from field trials testing the use of undervine foggers and the use of supplemental irrigation before or during heat waves. He will discuss impacts on vine growth, yield, fruit composition, and water use. Dr. Lav Khot from WSU’s AgWeatherNet will present the implementation of AgWeatherNet Smart Farms for sensor-guided heat stress management. He will also highlight smartphone and weather-guided web tools available within AgWeathertNet to help growers with effectively mitigating heat stress.

During the webinar, they will discuss:

  • Can undervine misters reduce canopy temperature in the fruit zone without increasing disease risk?
  • Is supplemental irrigation a meaningful approach either before or during heat waves? Does the approach prompt more shoot growth?
  • Are there carryover effects to the following year?
  • How do the new AgWeatherNet tools improve management decisions related to heat waves?
